Ed Claxton Ed Claxton began building musical instruments while he was a student at the University of Texas at Austin. As a project for a music course, he built an oud and became fascinated with the design and construction of stringed instruments. He went on to build a variety of instruments, such as the lyre, harp, hurdy-gurdy, hammer dulcimer and bouzouki. His main interest however was the guitar, and in 1972 Claxton opened his first shop where he built and repaired guitars and developed the models for the instruments that he makes today. After a number of years, Ed left Austin and pursued other areas of woodworking, building wooden boats, custom furniture and an occasional guitar in Belfast, Maine. In 1994, Ed moved to Santa Cruz with his wife Margie, where he continues to design and build acoustic guitars on a full time basis. Ed has recently moved to a new larger workshop located in the same building as his previous shop. This winter he introduced two new models, his 12-fret "Malabar" and a jumbo version of his model "EM". The Luthier's Collection will receive four guitars each year from Ed Claxton Guitars. You pay the same price at The Luthier's Collection as you would if dealing directly with Ed. Please let us know if there is something special you are looking for. Available Models
