Jeff Traugott

While studying music at Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington, Jeff Traugott became fascinated with the art of lutherie. He moved to Santa Cruz, California, and opened a small music store catering to acoustic string players in 1984. He began working for the Santa Cruz Guitar Co. in 1986 and remained there until 1991. At that time he decided to open his own shop, which is located in an old industrial complex housing a diverse community of artisans and craftspeople. From this humble location, Mr. Traugott has generated a global reputation.

His recent projects include experiments with Ralph Novak's fanned-fret system and work on a multi-neck guitar for Benjamin Verdery.

Jeff has also branched out recently in the music production field. After years of preparation, Mr. Traugott has compiled for CD such guitar greats as Benjamin Verdery on nylon string and William Colter playing his steel string Traugott guitar. The CD is a must have in any acoustic player's music collection.
